Great stuff Alexandra! I can completely relate to the starts and stops that come with working in and on the business.
From my past experience, usually this pattern keeps going until a couple of things "click." Then you scale up to the next level, and the cycle starts all over again. In and on until the next breakthrough.
I also like that bit on that distribution of people engaged with your course. It's funny, it's a topic I talk about often on social strategy (and the theme of my upcoming newsletter), but I somehow failed to see the connection to course attendees until you pointed it out the other week.

This is a great insight. Thanks for sharing, James! Looking forward to reading your newsletter.
Your story about London resonated, I often think about how if I described my life to myself when I was first considering staying out of the corporate world, I probably would’ve immediately started looking for jobs. It’s so hard to imagine the good that comes out of challenging experiences!
I hadn’t heard of the 90-9-1 rule but it makes a lot of sense! It is hard to balance wanting people to engage with the understanding that everyone’s best experience in a community is very personal. Another great issue!
It seems similar to the work/life balance idea, you go through phases where one predominates more than the other, and trying to always have a "balance" is counterproductive to a natural rhythm. Sometimes I'm working ON the business mostly and sometimes IN it predominantly. And occasionally it's more balanced.
Thanks, Danny! That's great to know, it hadn't occurred to me that was a factor but I've definitely found Twitter off lately. Would love to hear your thoughts on how to ramp up! Happy to DM you or hop on a Zoom call depending on your preference.
Sending you healing vibes. They won't actually heal you, but you can know someone in California (other than Christin) is propping you up. ✋❤️

Working 'in' the business at the expense of working 'on' it
STAHHPP being in my head XD seriously I learn these lessons the hard way and then read your newsletter and go SIGH
I feel you! Lol The upside is the hard earned lessons are the ones that stick. :)
Thanks for sharing your reflections Ali, hope you feel better soon!
Thanks, Charlotte! Appreciate you :)

Thanks, Michelle - glad the London story resonated!
Likewise, I found the community breakdown insightful. Glad you did too :)

Good point, Rick. There's no exact 50/50 breakdown I guess, more so seasons where they dominate. James shared a similar insight below!
Twitter has been a bit of a slog since early March. It's not you, it's the platform. Happy to discuss some ideas with you to ramp up.
