7th Edition: The Write Of Passage Writing Studio & 3 Concepts To Create High Value Courses
Thanks for being here
Hey L&D fam, hope you’re having a wonder-full week!
November can be glum as temperatures plummet and the Autumn colours fall away with the leaves. But fortunately three of my closest friends have back-to-back birthdays which keep the party vibes going strong.
They’re actually all sisters. And what’s even more coincidental, is they’re the same ages as me and my sisters. Plus, we each have a younger brother. Crazy, right?!
Needless to say our families were each other’s “playdate jackpot” growing up—no kid left unfriended, ha.
In any case, we decided to do things up properly and have a fancy brunch to celebrate what’s guaranteed to be another epic year for “the sisterhood”.
Here’s a glimpse of our venue of choice—a former gentlemen’s club turned restaurant:
In other news, you know Autumn is on its way out and Winter is on its way in, when the leaves start to come down and the boards (for skating rinks) start to go up.
Can you believe December kicks off next week..? Don’t worry—neither can I.
Anyway, back to business: here are three gems I want to share with you:
An Experience To Inspire: The Writing Studio
Today is graduation day for The Writing Studio—a small cohort-based course offered post Write of Passage.
The Writing Studio is lead by Michael Dean and is intended to help students sharpen their craft through live exercises, structured assignments and visual feedback.
I was so excited to join. Then I promptly fell behind as I struggled to carve out a new schedule post Write of Passage and daylight savings throwing me out of whack—but that’s the value of having a coach. No matter how offtrack I went, or how many times I felt like I was starting over, the instructor coached me forward.
His approach of using visual feedback is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. He was like a surgeon suturing the fragments of my mind into ideas.
And I made it to the end. Hallelujah!
I’ve only scratched the surface in implementing the new principles I’ve learned, but I’m excited to put in the reps over the coming weeks and months to master them.
Stay tuned!

A Resource To Consider: 3 Myth-Busting Concepts For Course Creators
Speaking of The Writing Studio, my output is an essay on 3 Myth-Busting Concepts For Course Creators.
There are tons of tips circulating on course creation but 99% focus on individual aspects. And while they may be terrific resources, I want to empower course creators to think strategically about their vision. Tactics are a dime a dozen—strategy is the real differentiator.
The essay still needs some fine-tuning but in the spirit of learning in public, I’m owning my work in progress. I hope you learn something from it and welcome feedback on how I could improve it.
A Question To Ponder: Legacy, Agency & Iteration
My essay above expands on three concepts vital to creating high value courses: legacy, agency and iteration.
💭 My question to you is, which concept(s) resonate with you and why?
